Numerous large-scale genome-sequencing efforts are now underway, including the Earth BioGenome Project 43, Genome 10K 44, the Vertebrate Genomes Project, Bat 1K 45, Bird 10K 46 and DNA Zoo. As the number of genomes grows, so too will the usefulness of comparative genomics in disease research and the development of therapeutic strategies.
